In a joint research effort with a veteran El Paso Broker, Winston Black, Lewinger Hamilton has recent completed a market rental survey of apartments in El Paso. El Paso Basic Information: “As the second largest city on the U.S.-Mexico border, El Paso reflects the region’s history and provides a glimpse of the nation’s (USA) future. Seventy percent of the El Paso’s population bears surnames of Mexican origin. Its diversified economic base mirrors U.S. economic trends. From five small settlements along the Rio Grande, the city’s population has grown to 591,623 (1990 U.S. Census) and covers approximately 250 square miles. The bulk of El Paso’s available 261,704 labor force is employed by three economic sectors: government (21.61%), manufacturing (20.18%) and services (20.10%). The city’s economy alone accounts for approximately 86% of the trade area’s output in dollars, and it acts as the area’s service center. ... El Paso County’s diversified economy is based primarily on wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing and services. Retail sales exceed $4.3 billion, of which as much as 40% have been attributed to shoppers from Mexico.
